Honoring "Old School"
Hello Fellow Travelers,
Happy October!
A new month has begun. Life is a series of beginnings and endings and lately it seems as if nothing is staying the same.
This gives me the inspiration for this weeks message.
In this fast paced, ever changing - upgrades at every turn- world, how often do we pay homage, or even notice that which remains constant?
This week is a perfect time to reflect on that question and take notice of the long standing, steady and guaranteed.
In a fast paced, charged, anxious, loud, driven, bigger, better, winner/loser based world, we often are cast into a false reality that praises the new, upgraded and furiously quick. We get sucked into wanting the new, upgraded and furiously quick, quickly, quicker or quickest newest new now!
And then its old. In a matter of hours.
This week is a perfect time to step out of the reality of quick fact checking, new upgrade, order in moments, mind boggling faster than the speed of the internet life...
and take your time.
Take your time and look around at all that is in your life that is last season's, last year's, last decade's even. Take your time and reflect on the people who are "old school", the electronics that still work but have been relegated to "outdated" and the attitudes, beliefs and values that you hold that are "old", yet ring true in your heart and soul.
New, evolved, enlightened and transformed is excellent and has its place. (at the front of your life if you are reading this.)
Growth also involves stable, steady, year after year care that is built upon the values of your own true spirit, the spirit you were born with, so very many years ago. This too belongs at the front of your life and it may have been overlooked as of late.
Take time to see your own true "old school" spirit and remember what it is that makes your heart sing, your body relax and your mind joyfull.
Take time to see your own true "old school" spirit and remember what it is that makes your heart sing, your body relax and your mind joyfull.
We do change, we are changing, yet there is also the deep inner core of who we are that never changes. Right now, the steady, constant, call of this aspect of us is asking that we find it. Once we find that in ourselves, we can see it out in the world.
Some of the steady in my life~The friend who I have known for years who has steadily become a dear presence in my life, the neighbor who walks his dog at the same time every day and always says hello "young lady" to me ,with a smile and a tip of his hat; the class of journaling goddesses who are still meeting 12 plus years later, each week to hold sacred space for each other; this newsletter, my healing room, equipped with a boom box; and the list goes on.
We need to honor the steady, the consistent and the guarantees in order to fly free into uncharted territory.
The uncharted is always going to be there and will always be calling to us. That which we take into the uncharted may as well be steady, true, consistent, stable and nourished enough to withstand the winds of change.
Nourishment comes in the form of taking your time and paying homage to that which you may, without a doubt, count on.
I count on you.
You may count on me (12 plus years and counting) to send you inspiration and blessings, and to always be cooking up something new that springs forth from the constant and stable, consistently dancing, singing, heart and soul of mine.
Blessings for a long, luxurious week of old school honoring and no upgrading necessary.
Mary
